Has anyone else read this book and its sequel The Wise Man's Fear by Patrick Rothfuss?

It's easily one of the best books I've ever read. Easily.

OH HELLS YEAH!.

Actually, I think I may have started you on this road.

This awesome, awesome, road.

Personally, I like Name of the Wind better than WIse Man's Fear, simply because, although Wise Man was well written and fun to read, it felt like 80% filler episodes and 20% plot advancement, which isn't a ratio I really like. Amazing series, though.

I feel The Wise Man's Fear was mostly just a set-up of Kvothe's additional traits and abilities, as well as some personal character development, but Rothfuss did seem to take an eloquently long detour for the entire process. It was still beautifully written either way.

I'd never argue that his writing is bad, just that I felt disappointed after waiting for years and years for the book, only to get setup and filler.

I still loved it. I still read it twice. But I was disappointed.

Yep. He fell into the trap of making a "bad" second book. Making a Trilogy is tricky, because you need enough effect and development in the first two picks to make them worthwhile on their own while not simply making them all set-up for the grand finale.

I use bad in the loosest sense of the word.
